Electoral Financing
Background
Campaign financing in Kenya has been a contentious issue since the advent of multiparty democracy in 1992. The high cost of running an election campaign in Kenya has raised pertinent questions about the source of campaign funds for all elective seats.
Reforms
Among the reforms that the Constitution of Kenya brought in 2010, was the Electoral Campaign Financing Act of 2013, which outlines the regulation, management, expenditure and accountability of election campaign funds during election and referendum campaigns. Since the assention of the Act, three spcnding limits have been set by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the 2013, 2017 and 2022 Kenya General Election.nbsp;
